Eat The Street draws the Honolulu foodiesSaturday, February 26, 2011
It was an irresistible draw for the local foodie community — a couple dozen food trucks and kiosks, DJs spinning, kids dancing and (for those of us addicted to such things) the opportunity to connect a half-dozen ways through social media check-ins and see those peeps in real life. The Foursquare site had more than 300 check-ins! The second Eat The Street event was more than double the first — crowd estimates were about 3,000. The chefs working the grills and the tables were churning out the ono grinds as quickly as they could, but sheer numbers dictated a slow pace in line, particularly for the popular taco trucks, Soul Patrol's southern comfort food, Malia’s Pasteles and Poke, Melt HNL's gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and Let Them Eat Cupcakes. The best advice came from Neenz Falafine, who posted to the Foursquare site this tip: "Be patient, talk story, and keep coming back!" Kids flash-mobbed to entertain the crowd (see video) and everyone was gabbing and admiring everyone else's food. A party atmosphere. I snapped a couple photos below, but you can see more on Nonstop Honolulu's excellent photo report on the event. Looking forward to the next one! ![]() Very popular on Facebook and Twitter, the Eat Gogi truck offers Korean-fusion tacos. Like spicy? ![]() Kawehi churns out the buttercream to keep up with demand at the Let Them Eat Cupcakes stand. They sold out quickly, just like at the first Eat The Street. ![]() Was all of Honolulu there? No, but it was close. ![]() Sunset — and lots more eating to do... |
